Going Adventuring
Adventures Don't Always Have to Be Big to Be Grand
Lately, I’ve been going on weekend adventures on Saturday afternoons.
For some reason, I always believed that adventures had to be these big, grand things. So, I never sought them out. Sure, I have taken bigger adventures.
I’ve been to India in my early twenties. I’ve been to Missouri, Arizona and Colorado with people I barely knew. But I made the mistake of thinking all adventures had to be huge things.
A few weeks ago, I made the decision to have small adventures. Even if its just walking around town.
So far, I’ve walked along paths I’ve seldom trod, took pictures of our historical society (it’s an old one room schoolhouse), went to our town’s daffodil show and walked around my town’s pioneer cemetery in the rain. I also found a cute coffee shop that looks like it belongs in a detective novel!
Last weekend, despite a migraine and feeling totally out of it, I went to another coffee shop that I’ve been meaning to try on the edge of town. It’s outside of my normal stomping grounds, so while I’ve heard of it, I’ve never been.
I will have to go back now that I feel better, but it was super cute! It looked like a diner inside and had old cars on the outside as well as an area for kids to play on the inside. Plus, I got a really yummy lemon cookie which was amazing!
This week, I’m fairly sure that adventures will consist of getting dried fruit for snacks and washing my car which desperately needs it after the rain last week. Maybe a hike with my mom if the weather isn’t too hot. We’ll see.
One of these weekends, I really want to visit the neighborhood I lived in as a child before I moved to my current house. See if I can find the “castle” my sibilings and I played on in the woods. I have no idea if it still exists, but I’m planning on finding out.
If you’ve read this far, what sort of little adventures have you taken recently?

I love how you're finding joy in the little things. I think that's really what an adventure can be-taking joy in the everyday turns that God gives us
